Hiking the Y

For those of you unfamiliar with BYU, there's a giant "Y" on the mountain east of campus.

There's a popular trail to hike that takes you up to it.  After making it through my freshman year having never hiked it, I kind of had this mindset that I would never do it.  Especially after hearing Ashley Lisonbee tell me how hard it was, and especially for us Florida girls who aren't used to the elevation.

Well, this activity was pretty much unavoidable.  I'm an FHE group leader and we hiked the Y as a ward FHE activity, so I pretty much had to go.

Well, they were wrong.

I was dead by about the second switch-back, and there are twelve.  I honestly thought I wouldn't make it to the halfway point, let alone the top.  But I forced myself to get to the top since we were doing a little devotional at the Y.  And after nearly passing out from lack of oxygen, I finally made it.

It was definitely worth it, just for the awesome view of Utah Valley.  Plus, we planned it so we got there just as the sun was going down over the west mountains, and so there was a beautiful sunset as well.  Just lovely.

Life Updated

Hey there.

Yeah, not much is going on in my life.

Working between 50 and 60 hours a week.  That's pretty much all I do.

I got called as an FHE group leader for this summer.  It's going to be really good, my group seems fun, and my 'husband' is from Chile.  Last week we combined with another group to play soccer (which, I realized, I'm absolutely no good at) and tonight we had an awesome spiritual thought then introduced ourselves to everyone, telling about our most serious or recent injury.  Good stuff.

I've been reading ravenously since I got hooked on Uglies last week, and so I'm itching to get my hands on more books.  If only I didn't have to work so much, I could read to my heart's desire!

I bought my plane ticket home for this summer.  I decided that since I'm working so hard Spring Term that I'm going to come home for a whole month!  I can not wait to party and hang out with all my buddies and go to the BEACH (that is, if they aren't slicked in oil) and go to theme parks (omgosh-- HARRY POTTER!!) and be hot in the wonderful humidity.

It snowed today.  It was an adventure riding my bike to campus in that.  I was completely soaked and didn't dry out until about 5 hours later.  Lame.  Tree branches broke everywhere from the weight of the snow on the leaves, and at work we got a call about a power line that fell on a car.  Yikes.  Plus, everyone's gardens are now nicely frozen.  Gotta love Utah (or not).

I got new shoes last week.  My old ones had holes everywhere, side of the foot, toe, sole, it was pretty bad.  I ordered some Vans online that I've wanted for a while.  Best thing was they were 20% off and free shipping!  Love!

FHE Camera Tag at Shopko

So, this week was our last FHE together, as the bishopric has decided to disband and re-form the families this semester. I am being released as mom, so I'm looking forward to a new calling. :) So, for our"last hurrah" of FHEs we went to Shopko and played camera tag. We had a scavenger hunt to do as well (find socks the color of your eyes, find a toy that looks like you, find a book with the same copyright year as your birthday, etc.). We broke up into 3 teams of 2 and a team of 3. There was one camera per team and you had to try to get as many pictures of members of the other team as you could There were points for completeing the scavenger hunt and for getting full body or face shots of the other team. It was great fun, but I'm sure the other people in the store were annoyed by us dashing down asiles an ducking around them. You only get to be an annoying college student once, right? Haha. One night for FHE we did quilting with another family at the Wyview Central Building with Brother and Sister Gurney (in the bishopric) in charge of it all. It turned out really good. John got some fun pictures from that night, so I'll put them up. There are kind of a lot....

Hey everyone. We had FHE last night, and once again, everyone left early but the guys, so we threw Clarissa a re-brithday party because her real birthday (Saturday) was depressing.
